I stumbled upon a website featuring 10 established pattern designers. The URL is http://abduzeedo.com/10-great-surface-pattern-designers. I browsed through the various designers’ links and found some really cool designs. I encourage any one who is interested to check it out! Here are just two of the many patterns that were accessible through this link. This is a pattern by Paul Willoughby that was produced commercially for a film magazine called Little White Lies. This pattern is similar to some of the ones that we looked at in class as the pattern of octopi inconspicuously form words in the white space. I find these types of patterns to be very cool.
This next pattern was designed by Julia Rothman. After browsing a bit, I found her designs to be very warm and welcoming. I found this one to be interesting and slightly different than her other designs. I had to stare at it a bit before starting to understand what was going on, and in the end I really appreciate her thought process and how she was able to create aesthetic harmony even while using various shapes.
There’s plenty more where these came from so feel free to take a look!
